Recent Gartner report claims blogging is not over
There has been news circulating that blogging will reach its peak sometime next year. Not so, says Gartner in a recent brief posted on MarketWatch. I read an interesting quote by Darryl Plummer from Gartner. In cautioning companies not to dismiss blogs if they peak next year, he says:
"If you don't pay attention to blogs and community contributions, down the road you're going to be way behind the competition because you won't understand how to reach the customer, and they won't understand why you seem so out of touch."
I completely agree with this comment. While I'm sure we will see a peak in blogging, it's merely that, a peak. I think we'll continue to see quantitative growth on a smaller scale, but while people have been creating their own blogs over the last few years, I think we can look forward to more qualitative growth in other areas such as increased posts and site popularity.
If you want to read more on blogging in 2006, this report by Pew Internet and American Life Project from July 2006 is a terrific resource.
